Have you ever wondered what the typical morning routine of a blogger? You’ve picked your niche and created your business plan. You’re excited to start on your new venture. But is that all you need to prepare for your day? You’d want to set up your schedule too and that does not only include your content calendar or your social media marketing.
Setting up your schedule for a business also includes what you need to do before and after your work. It is easy to get burned out when working on a business. And its easy to just chill when you know you don’t have anywhere else to go that day. So what I do is set up my morning routine in order to start my productive day.
Why I decided to set up my morning routine
The first few days after quitting my regular job I just want to stay in bed longer. I always thought since I don’t have anywhere else to go anyway, why not spend few more hours of sleep. I felt like I need to catch up to those days when I didn’t have enough sleep because I have to wake up early to go to work and sleep late at night to finish all the household chores. But then I wasn’t getting anywhere either. I’m still stuck the same place I’ve always been but much poorer.
Just because you want to work from home doesn’t mean you have to forego the necessary steps to have productive day for your business.
Typical Morning Routine of a Blogger:
1. Wake up early.
Part of a morning routine of a blogger is getting up early. I hate waking up early in the morning. That’s one thing that could almost always ruin my day. But what I mean about this is waking up as early as the time you are most productive. I’m more productive during the hours of 8 am to noon. So I set my time to wake up at 7 in the morning to start my day. As long as I don’t have to wake up as early as 4am like I used to for work, then I’m good.
2. Do some exercises.
Before anything else (or at least after I wash my face), I do some light exercises to help pump up my blood and start up my body and brain. Exercise doesn’t just increase your energy, it also helps you focus more and enhance your mood.
3. Make coffee/tea or breakfast and do all other household chores.
I don’t eat heavy breakfast so usually I just grab a slice of bread or granola to go with my drink. But whatever you are used to, do it before you start working. It will help fuel your brain and help increase your productivity. For other bloggers, this is the time when they take care of their kids who are getting ready to go to school.
4. Get dressed.
When I get dressed, I mean getting out of my sleeping clothes and put on my day clothes. It does not have to be formal or business suit but something comfortable and something I wouldn’t wear to sleep. It also helps if i choose something ironed. This helps lessen the clutter that could cause distraction.
5. Read News/Updates.
Once I’m dressed and ready to tackle my plan for the day, I power up my computer while reading some news articles/updates. Blogging is a continuous learning experience and internet is continuously evolving. So it helps if you have the knowledge of new updates that might be helpful for your blog business.
This routine is basic steps for a productive day. Of course you can always change it to fit to your lifestyle.
